Our Mission
The Pagan Students Association (PSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) supports Pagan/Neo-Pagan students on campus by:
- providing a safe and open space for the discussion of Pagan beliefs and practices,
- offering educational programs to raise understanding and awareness of Pagan beliefs and practices across campus,
- building community through both formal and informal social events, and
- aiding spiritual growth and development by coordinating workshops and spiritual observances throughout the academic year.
For more information, you can read the PSA bylaws.
Safe & Open Space
PSA hosts general assembly meetings at least twice per semester. These meetings are designed to facilitate stress-free fellowship among Pagan students. Via the organization, members can discuss divinity, acknowledge the beauty of nature, dance in celebration, or simply indulge in a mundane conversation with like-minded people.
Educational Programs
The university has a strong representation of students from various spiritual paths. Given the history of Paganism and the Neo-Pagan Movement, many open-minded students on campus crave basic information about our spiritual path from our perspective. PSA is committed to offering workshops and discussions that educate the broader campus community.
Building Community
UIUC is a huge campus. With 43,000 students it can be difficult at times for Pagan students to identify and connect with each other. PSA provides general assembly meetings and both formal and informal social events to encourage connection and communication among members.
Spiritual Growth & Development
Our organization is founded on Pagan spiritual beliefs and practices. While the body of Paganism is broad and very diverse, PSA strives to acknowledge and comprehend the differences while embracing the similarities in belief and practice. To that end, we host at least two spiritual observances per semester that are directly informed by the beliefs and practices of our current members. Note that in celebration of the Association’s diversity, members are encouraged to educate other members about their practices and spearhead additional spiritual celebrations throughout the academic year. In addition, we hold workshops for group members, designed to facilitate spiritual development around a selected topic.
